All Type Diabetes Tracker at Your Fingertips

Originating out of Falmouth University’s Launchpad programme, Neap provides an e-health solution for the diabetic community that meets EPIC’s goals.
Neap is a startup supported by the University of Plymouth, UK Research and Innovation, and NHS (Royal Cornwall Hospitals). The project's main goal is to simplify and systematise processes such as filling out a daily medical logbook and making notes with the calendar. The app comes with some game elements aimed at encouraging users. The target audience is people with diabetes from different groups.
The main idea was to develop a mobile application with a user-friendly interface that would evoke an emotional response from the user. According to research, diabetic patients are more often depressed, so it was important for us to design an interface that would create a feeling of care and support for this type of user to show them that they are not alone.
During the research, I realised that the best option for visualising information would be a cute mascot who meets the user on the dashboard and accompanies them throughout the session. Today people are increasingly delving into the digital environment, so, one way or another they come across game mechanics: the user receives a daily login bonus in the application, which motivates them to monitor health and regularly log in to Neap. A separate set of illustrations were drawn for each reward.
“Ivan is an exceptionally talented designer who consistently exceeded our expectations. His ability to blend creativity and functionality resulted in visually stunning designs that perfectly captured our brand's essence.”
Some companies are named after their founders. Others describe what the business or product does. In true Cornish fashion, Neap founder George Fry was inspired by a visit to a local beach. Peacefully watching the tide wash in and out, he wanted to emulate the calm feeling his app users would feel from having their diabetes under control. And so, Neap was born.
During this project, I gained valuable insights into the importance of user research and accessibility requirements in creating impactful designs. Understanding how to effectively leverage visual hierarchy and strategically place information played a key role in showcasing brand identity.
Through this group project, I first learned the power of collaboration. Putting everyone's ideas together to come up with our best version was indeed an amazing learning moment. Being acknowledged for the effort that I had put in and seeing my design selected boosted my confidence and validated my ability to understand client needs and solve design challenges effectively.
